Kip Up!

Kip Up LineTest from Melissa Courville on Vimeo.

Another Line Test!
This one has a ways to go yet. Same character as the previous one, but now he's show'n his skillz by performing a Kip Up, or Kick Up. Agile lil' guy, ain't he?

Tumble 2.0

Tumble LineTest from Melissa Courville on Vimeo.

Another pass at my tumble animation.
Still have the face to do.
I'm hoping to clean it up and try colouring it in harmony after. O=
We'll see how that works out...

What I Did Today...

LineTest from Melissa Courville on Vimeo.

I started animating the tumble sequence! =D Still have the settle at the end to do, and tweaks before I go in and put the details. That's for tomorrow.

Also did a bunch of chores and tasks I had planned. All in all, It was a very productive day.

Coming soon: More Pokemon!

Demo Reel and Film!

The open house and school are finished, so I finally had a chance to upload these!
If you missed them before, check them out!

Demo Reel Cover

These are the CD cases I made to hold my Demo Reel dvd! I cut and folded them out of cardstock, all using my handy-dandy steak knife and trusted scissors.
The seal on it is real wax, stamped with the letter "M". I also used red blue and green wax. Luckily the only one left was the only black seal I made, which was my favourite.

Also, turns out wax catches fire really easily. Smells bad burnt too.

Fine Tooning Pages

These here be my pages for Fine Tooning. It was a brutal process to get everything approved and laid out right, but totally worth it. The book looks amazing! Everyone put alot of hard work into their pages, and it turned out great. Props to everyone.
You should also check out the AWESOME COVER designed by Scott and Dave

Tuck and Roll

Just a quick post, since I haven't made one in a while.
Something I've been working on to put into our Fine Tooning book. Maybe I'll post his design at a later date.

And catch up on those pokemon I haven't posted....

004 Charmander

Yet another pokemon. I love drawing these guys, though it's tough thinking of poses to put them in. I'll try to find something else to post later.

Coloured Life Drawing!

In life drawing class we are now working with coloured pastels, using two or three colours to get the different tones of shading. It was recommended we use coloured paper as the mid-tone, so that's what I've done here. It's really enjoyable to play around with different combinations.
Top one is a 40 minute pose, the other two are 20 minute poses.

003 Venusaur

Number three. Almost at my record for consecutive posts.
Looks alot like the ivysaur. O=

I'm hoping to have something besides pokemon posted later on, so don't touch that dial!

002 Ivysaur

Number 2 of 600+.
I drew this little guy months ago, and had the idea of using him for the challenge.
In retrospect, I should have redrawn it.... But it'll do!

001 Bulbasaur

So, my friend (re)Beccy decided to do this thing where she draws a pokemon everyday, going in order. She has also recruited several of us to join her, all of us doing our own little style with it. I'm doing pokemon in action-y poses!
I know this sounds alot like the post a day thing that I failed at... but this'll work!

REPICKULUS!!!!!

New background, wut!?
Yeah, I've finally updated my blog, after years of the basic sample layout. It's just something I drew in class, scanned, and inverted the colours. =D Nice and simple.
Enjoy!

Above are what I made my boyfriend for Valentines Day. They're prints made by carving out sections from a rubber tile, rolling paint onto it, and pasting it onto paper like a stamp. You can only do one colour and layer at a time, so you have to build the image up. This one was pretty simple, and only had three parts.
Due to the nature of the print, it's limited edition stuff, since you can never get the previous layers back. So, in case I messed up, I made more then one! And I got to play around with the colours as well, which was nice.

And I am once again trying a post a day! Whoo!

Gestures

So I think I've settled with just posting whenever I can/remember. As such, have some life drawing. They be gestures, 1 to 3 minutes, I believe. I almost never find myself with the time to finish a drawing, no matter how much time I'm given. d= My style of drawing seems to change every class too. I think it depends on who I sit next to.... Anways, enjoy.

The Smell Of Coffee

Since We're graduating this year, everyone has to make their own page for a yearbook type thing, that doubles as a portfolio. These are my ideas for my pages. I made them using watercolours and coffee. Lotsa coffee. In fact, my hands are probably going to smell like Coffee for the next week. And I don't drink the stuff....
After making the textures on paper, I scanned them in and put them together in photoshop.
Tons of fun. Hopefully they get approved.

Bonus: Day 2.

Something A Little Different

Here's some life drawing for you. It was an hour long study using the "wipe and erase" technique with Conte. The closest I have come to finishing a long study to boot!

This drawing also marks my newest attempt at trying to post consecutively.
So. Day 1 of 1.
Enjoy.

Strike Two

So. Missed it again....
The record still stands at four days. I didn't even beat last week, how lame.
Have an animation assignment to make up for it.

Some Actual Animation

This is the only real animation assignment we had last semester. A four legged walk, most people doing a dog, and the same dog model. I was relatively pleased with mine. Tail is doing some wonky things, but that's what happens when you save it for last and run out of time.

Enjoy

(Day 3 of 3, on a roll.)

Taking Out The Trash

All the old Junk is finally off my main page.
About time. D=<

This is another drawing I did for "Mom's Fridge." The theme was Gangsters or Gangstas. Used the older model for the chick, since it's more my style then the revised turnaround one.
So Yeah. Quick sketch. Enjoy.

Stay Classy.
(Day 2 of 2!)

It's Monday

And so begins round two of trying to post consecutively.

These are my thumbnails for one of my scenes I am animating. Most of my other thumbs are really rough and gestural (for me) but I was having alot of trouble getting this guy on model, so I did some very detailed thumbs at a size I'm comfortable drawing at. The action has actually changed quite a bit since I've started animating it.

That's it for me!
Cheers.

So Close....

I almost made it a whole week of posting. Almost! Better luck next week I suppose....
Four days is still my longest running streak of posting though. =D
To make up for it, I have posted on the weekend! D=<
It's my establishing shot for my movie, cleaned up, and then redone in photoshop. Still have to colour it....
Another Time.

As a five year old said to me earlier today, PEACE OUT!

Sir Lady Knight

We set up this thing in my animation class called "Mom's Fridge" where we post up our drawings on one side of the classroom. To encourage people to draw their characters, we set a theme on a bi-weekly basis. It actually all evolved from a couple of them deciding to draw their characters in puffy princess dresses. So, Here's my knight in his lovely formal wear. Doesn't he look pleased?

Enjoy.

I love Sleep.

So I guess I'm in the wrong program. But when I'm sick, that's all I want to do, so it wasn't a very productive day.... But I didn't forget to post! Do you know what that means?
I'm on a Roll. >=D

Above is an early design of my female character, and the only one I like. I seem to have reverted to this design while animating her. Not complaining.
And then I decided to add on my rough tree and bush designs I did for figuring out the style of my film. Thems be some wonky bushes.... but at least they're simple.

Cheers!

Close Call!

So here I am, sitting at home, getting ready to go to bed...

And it hits me. I didn't post on my blog! And I don't have my scanner hooked up!

Luckily, I was able to drag something out of the dustbin just in the nick of time.

He's a D&D character I made a couple of years ago for a campaign that never took off. Sad, I know. But I still like him. Botched his crossbow thing in there, by the way. I think it was originally a gun, but I switched it while colouring...

Enjoy.

Monday, January 17, 2011

It's Monday.

And I've posted the second consecutive weekday in a row.

I think that's a Record.

Above are some rough initial designs of my main character for my film.
...still kind of prefer this shape over the new one, but whatever.
Also did some expressions for him to figure out his face. The type of expression came from this 25 Essential Expression Challenge I found on deviantart.
Never did do them all...
Anyways, see you tomorrow! =D

Oh Man,

So.... it's been a while, eh?
I am aspiring to make a post every weekday for the rest of the semester. We'll see how long that lasts.
As a quick recap, I am now in my third and final year of Animation, and working on my film. The above character rotations are from said film. There'll be more to come! =D
